I will keep posting here for some time, but one day the posting will stop on this site and move over completely to It's new, I'm still working on getting posts transfered, but for now it is what it is and I hope you enjoy my new spot on the web!

Apple Pie Cookies

I spent the day in the kitchen baking these, they turned out absolutely delicious. There is something to be said about spending all day working on something and have the results be magnificent. I do not get that feeling enough from school, not as much as a I should. It was lovely to spend my day, yes these did take all day, doing something that I loved.

Baking is something that I have found more enjoyable as the years have passed by. I get more comfortable with the instruments in my hands and when reading the recipe, it does not seem as daunting as it once did. This task that I once found stressful has now become something I thoroughly enjoy. Spending my weekdays at school, working hard on homework assignments, it's hard to fit in time to do what I love. Thankfully, today we were given the day off. A day to breath and relax, to sleep in past 8 o'clock and be who we truly are. Do what we would like for a day that would typically be spent going from class to class, counting down the minutes until the school day is over.  Days off are not as appreciated as I think they should be. But today, I lived every moment of the time that I was given.

I baked without pressure, with only hope that my hard work would pay off today. Enjoyment rushed through me the second I took the first bite. These morsels will melt in your mouth and the hard work that they require will be incredibly worth it once you have them to enjoy. I wish I would have doubled the recipe so I could enjoy them for twice as long. I loved the way that I was able to spend my day baking, running errands in between time that the dough needed to chill and photographing everything along the way.

I Need Your Help

Hi everyone!

I apologize for how sporatic and lacking my posts have been lately. Posting just doesn't make time into my day when I have aprx. 3,000 photos on my camera card and a test everyday this week.

Life gets stressful.

But I want to post more and let this be a place of growth. That I can look back upon and see where I was in life. Where I can share my ideas with you.

Yet Twirl and Curl isn't doing it for me. I need a new name, I'm dying for a fresh start. That's where I'm struggling. I want a fun name, that's simple and classic too.

I would love to use my initials, MAT, in the title. I don't want to steal someone's blog title and just stick my initials in there. That doesn't seem fair. Plus it isn't very unique at all.

I would love, love, love if you could help me come up with new ideas. Here are some things about me that you might not have known:

My name is Mackenzie.
My initals are MAT.
I love monograms.
I love lists.
I love organizing.
I love my friends and family.
My family has three cockapoos.
I am a junior in high school.
I love pink. Light pink to magenta, no bubblegum.
I have crazy habits and things that annoy me. (A full post for another time.)
I love photography and baking.
I love reading.
I don't think a day is complete if you haven't laughed.

Please, help me out here! I have tried coming up with new names and nothing has fit or stuck. If you have any ideas at all, you could be the one to name my blog! If you could take one minute and comment on this post I would be incredibly thankful. I am getting a new design next week and need a new name by then! Can't wait to hear all of your ideas!

Oh, Erin Condren

I love the new life planners from Erin Condren Design. I love them so much that I decided to order one for myself, even though I already get a planner from my high school that I will use daily. I'm an organization person so it was incredible to come upon these! A planner with a to do list and goal section for every week? Perfect! Before I made my decision I made sure that it would be something I used, to do this I read every blog post, tumblr post and review there is online of these planners. Everyone loved them and the only negative complaints were from the people that had their order deleted when they were hacked. I ordered my planner on Wednesday August 17th and got priority processing so that my planner would arrive before school began. Not exactly how it all played out...

I had ordered my planner with unique color changes and therefore requested a proof, I also cut the planner off with September 2012 being its last month since I would use it as an academic calendar. They didn't send me a proof and I had to email them to get a proof sent to me so I could approve it before it went to be bound. The people at Erin Condren were super sweet about it and couldn't have been nicer and I was just glad it all worked out. Fast forward to last Friday, my planner arrived on Thursday but I couldn't open it until Friday. I opened my planner and saw that it was from January 2012 to December 2012. I was heartbroken, it sounds crazy to be this upset over a planner but I was. I wanted to start using this planner the second I opened it and was livid when I opened it and it wasn't usable. My mom on the other hand, ordered a life planner and an address book and both of them were perfect. Insane.

I promptly called Erin Condren where I requested a new planner and asked them to overnight it to me and was told that I would get a call back. By about 3:30pm I hadn't gotten a call back and figured that to overnight it to me they needed to have it out earlier than 5pm when they closed. I emailed them and got a response back a little after 4pm where they told me that they would overnight it to me on Monday and that I could keep my old planner and that they were so sorry. I was also told that they had a lot of new people working and that they are working out kinks and that once again, they were sorry for the mistake. I was just grateful that I got a call that the problem was solved!

Today is Tuesday and I was looking forward all day for my planner to arrive, finally! And before school starts! The mailman/delivery man arrived and there was no Erin Condren planner, my heart sank. Where was my planner? I figured maybe it was coming at a different time, being delivered later, etc. Not so much. I called Erin Condren back and asked to see if it had shipped to see if it was coming later or if it was coming another day. I talked to the same person that didn't call me back in the first place and he told me he would look for the shipping number and call me back. Fast forward to 5:20pm and I hadn't gotten a call, they close at 5pm. I called and talked to a different person, the first person I talked to had left for the day and was no longer there. He couldn't tell me anything really and I gave him my information and he said that he will give me a call and send me an email tomorrow. I honestly just want my planner! Do you think it will come tomorrow?

Mane Message

This spring I recently found a new product from Mane Message, I absolutely love their hair ties and hair bands! I have curly hair and hair ties had always been an issues, I never liked the generic ties from the drug store and they would always get tangled in my hair or they would snap in half as I was trying to get them out. But with these new ties, I've never had that problem!
I was ecstatic when I found out more about the brand, about Olivia and the way she has ran her business. She is an incredibly kind person and was so understanding for how long these photos have taken me!
I adore my hair ties and hair bands that I have and my friends love them as well! Make sure to check out Mane Message yourself and try out this amazing product!

Losing Inspiration

I've lost the photography bug.

I don't want to go take photos and there isn't anything that is inspiring.

I'm in a photo slump, which may partially be caused by the fact that my computer is running out of space.

I tried buying a hard drive to back up those photos with, but then if that crashes, the photos are gone. Poof. That thought terrifies me.

I'm trying to figure out what to do, buy a bigger hard drive to back up my computer on and then the previous hard drive with just photos? See if I can get more space on the laptop itself?

I need to figure something out because having this slump is not helping my photography skills and will not help the fact when I travel later this year.

Any suggestions to get some space back on my computer as well as my photography mojo?

Summer Reading

I love being able to read for pleasure in the summer! It is something that I love being able to do, especially since my GoodReads to-read list is miles long! I'm not a fast reader by any means but there are tons of books that I want to read and ever since I was younger I could not leave a Barnes & Noble without one or five books in my hands. So far this summer I was able to read The Help by Kathryn Stockett. It took a while to get into this book in the beginning and its length was a bit challenging, but after reading the last chapter I was in love with this book! You needed every single word in that book to make it as wonderful as it is. I'm now on the lookout for my next summer read! I'm leaning towards The Hunger Games series, but I need to go buy the book first! I also have a Kindle and am dying for an iPad (for baking/cooking recipes and reading), do any of you have an eReader? Do you love it? Also, I would love to hear what you are reading this summer! I'm also on GoodReads, my username is Mac_kenzie so feel free to add me on there as well! Happy reading!

College Prepster Book Club!

I loved that Carly from the College Prepster started a book club! I have always wanted to have a book club but it just never happened.
Her first pick was Saving CeeCee Honeycutt.
I loved this book! I think Carly made a great decision and it was not the most thought provoking read, but it was light and fun!

I fell in love with CeeCee and was glad to read this over spring break, in a weekend none the less!

This would be a perfect summer read for anyone looking for something fun and light, but still with some depth!

Thanks Carly! I can't wait to read the next book, The Proper Care and Maintenance of Friendship!

The Perfect Day

A trip out to breakfast. Photos in the street with blooming cherry blossoms. Blue skies. A walk for the dogs. A trip to the dog store. Yummy Mexican food from a food truck. Sitting in on a puppy class. Perfect.

An incredible amount of thanks to Kristen for sharing this. Love. It.

Loving...Right Here, Right Now.

One: Reading
I am currently on spring break and I have been reading up a storm! I figure I have a list of books on GoodReads that is a mile long so why not spend some time making that list smaller. I have been reading Three Cups of Tea since December and finished that this week. I started Mini Shopaholic ages ago and finally finished it! I was on page 109 when I started this week and was at 416 in probably two days. Such a fast and mindless read. Emphasis on the mindless! Then today I started Water for Elephants. I would love to see the movie--Reese Witherspoon!--and tons of people have liked it so I got it in November and finally started it! I am loving it! I am already about 70 pages into it, I hope to read more tonight!

Two: Sunshine
I'm currently in California for the first of my two week spring break and am loving the beautiful weather. It hasn't been exactly the most incredible weather, but it is much better than Seattle so I don't mind the clouds or the major winds too much at this point!
Three: My Camera
I took some more photos tonight and am loving them. I just had this warm feeling inside while I was taking them and they just made me so happy. It was so much fun just going outside and shooting whatever was there. I loved it! Tomorrow I hope to take even more.
Four: Spring Break
I'm sleeping in, I'm staying up late, I'm playing tennis at nine o'clock in the morning, it is wonderful. I love it. There is no homework for the entire two weeks of my break and I think that is what has motivated to do even more reading. I head home to Seattle on Sunday but my week in California has been wonderful!

I Love This Photo.

One of my favorite photos I have ever taken!

Friday, February 25, 2011

As photography proves to be only one of my growing interests, I am thinking about branching out Twirl and Curl a bit more. Maybe include some more posts of baking? Life? Restaurant and hotel reviews possibly? Almost everything and anything! What do you think of this idea?I think this would definitely help deal with the rare posting options since when it is raining outside I can't always take photos to post. Let me know what you think!

Thursday, February 17, 2011

I need your advice! I feel so bad about not posting consistently, do you have any secrets to keeping your posts consistent? I've heard of people writing all their posts on one day and then scheduling them, but that seems very time consuming and somewhat challenging to come up with ideas. Plus with my busy high school schedule I don't find time to make posting a priority on a school night. Any suggestions for me? How do you post consistently with a busy schedule?

Fix-It Friday #85

I decided to try to edit this photo this week! This edit isn't exactly perfect but I did what I know and I like it! I think it is better than the original! It isn't as smooth as I would have liked, but I don't know how to improve it without losing sharpness, suggestions? Please let me know what you think in the comments as well!

My Edit!

A Weekend Favorite

I finally got Chloe to sit still for a minute so I could get a photo of her! The photo-shoot didn't last long since she found great interest in my lens! Ha! What do you think?

Done, Done, Done!

My finals are finally over and this afternoon I could not be happier! One reason that I might have been a tad bit happy too was that we got our second puppy, Chloe, today! She was a Christmas gift but wasn't ready to go home until last weekend! We decided to wait to get her until after finals so we would actually study, making this weekend so much fun! Here's a photo I snapped of her tonight and hopefully I can get a better one tomorrow when it's actually light outside! Happy weekend everyone!

Wednesday, January 12, 2011

Hi everyone! I hope everyone's week is going well, we're half way done! Only two more days to go! My finals start on Tuesday and I am now getting very seriously into my studying and reviewing! This afternoon was my first good afternoon of the week and I feel so much more prepared for finals, especially with the deadlines I set out for myself! Those are on the sticky notes on the door. Those always come out for finals and they are the true sign that finals are here! So please excuse my lack of posting! I may try to sneak in a post here and there over the weekend, but we'll see!
We got snow last night and got a two hour late start! I felt so rested today, it was incredible!

I love my mom's smile so much! Here is a photo of her showing her smile while we were in Hawaii! Why she was so happy? Cotton candy that you could get in the hotel! Let me know what you think! I know it's not the best photo, but in an effort to participate more in photo challenges, here I go! Constructive criticism is more than appreciated! Photographing people is definitely not one of my best talents, so hopefully this year I can grow in this area!

Best of the Break

While on winter break, I spent a week in Palm Springs and a week in Hawaii. While in Palm Springs it had record rainfall for the first time in centuries and in Hawaii we spent our days by the pool soaking up the sun we never get. After traveling to Palm Springs so many times you can only photograph the flowers in your yard so many times, plus when it's raining it proves slightly impossible to take photos. Then in Hawaii we spent the day by the pool, which doesn't provide a situation to haul out the big Canon. People in bikinis with their kids aren't exactly comfortable with a girl with a huge camera taking photos! Plus, that doesn't add a huge comfort factor for me! So I was left with photos of sunsets and a few flower shots from walking around the resort! Here are some of my favorite shots from Hawaii! Please let me know what you think!
